Simon Monks is Managing Partner of Caldwell Partners in New Zealand. With over thirty years’ experience in both local and international executive search and leadership advisory organisations, he has consulted to a wide variety of commercial enterprises at senior executive level in New Zealand, Australasia and internationally. As a senior member of the global CEO/Board practice, he has oversight of the consumer, retail & e-commerce, industrial, financial services, media & entertainment and private equity practices. His functional expertise in addition to CEO/Board includes CFO, CMO, CSO, CCO and CHRO.
Simon’s international executive search experience has involved holding senior leadership positions in both local and international firms across New Zealand and Australia. These organisations more recently have included Amrop International New Zealand, subsequently acquired by TMP Worldwide Executive Search (Highland Partners) where Simon held the role of Managing Partner based in Sydney. On his return to New Zealand in 2003, he co-founded his own Leadership Advisory firm – RENTONJAMES, which was acquired by Heidrick & Struggles International in 2007. Simon was the Regional Sector Leader Gaming & Hospitality Asia Pacific for Heidrick & Struggles and led the establishment of the Asia Pacific Gaming practice. In this role, he leveraged his extensive international experience and networks in the gaming sector developed since 1995 coordinating senior level, cross-border, gaming searches working in conjunction with his partners in the United States and Europe. Following a transitional period, Simon and the New Zealand team entered an agreement to represent Caldwell Partners in Asia Pacific to assist in developing their targeted growth strategy for the region.
Over the past four years, Simon has worked closely with the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc. (INFINZ) sponsoring their Leadership Award and developing the leadership criteria against which senior New Zealand business leaders are evaluated.
Simon is also a Director for Catwalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust.
Simon holds both an LLB and MBA from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
